Conservative Ben Houchen has been elected as the first Tees Valley Mayor as local residents backed Theresa May and the Conservatives to deliver a Brexit deal that works for the country and for Teesside.
Commenting on the results, Conservative candidate for Stockton North at the General Election, Mark Fletcher, said:
“I’m delighted that local residents have backed the Conservatives and our vision for a better future for Teesside. In Ben Houchen, residents right across Stockton North and Teesside have a dedicated public servant who has worked tirelessly for the community and will be a brilliant Mayor.
“This result shows a positive new direction for Stockton. Only the Conservatives can beat Labour here and I will be working hard over the next five weeks to win the trust of people across Stockton North to back me and Theresa May on June 8th, so we can secure a Brexit deal that works for Stockton and build a better future together.”
