Dear Resident of Blackwell and Westhouses,

As you may be aware, Westhouses, Blackwell, and the surrounding villages were once served by rail through the Westhouses and Blackwell Station. Unfortunately, this closed over half a century ago and the local area has suffered from poor regional connectivity ever since. As part of this Government’s levelling-up agenda it has set about to restore lost rail connections and there is now renewed effort across the country to restore old services and develop new stations. In the Bolsover constituency, I have been working to extend the Robin Hood Line from Shirebrook to Ollerton via Edwinstowe and Warsop, campaigning with Lee Rowley MP (North East Derbyshire) for a station at Clay Cross, and in the south of the constituency I have been working with Bolsover District Council, Ashfield District Council, and Lee Anderson MP (Ashfield) to re-open the Maid Marian Line to passengers with a new station to serve the communities of Pinxton and Selston.

Since being elected, I have been asked by a number of residents, as well as local councillors, about the prospect of developing a new station to serve Westhouses and Blackwell, which could potentially be included on the Nottingham to Chesterfield service.

I have already made initial representations to Network Rail, East Midlands Railway, and Bolsover District Council, but I should state clearly this is only an exploratory exercise to see if the project would have the support of the local community, but also whether it would demonstrate significant benefits to residents, so that it could potentially progress in any future funding bids/applications.

The survey will only take a couple of minutes and I would really like to hear your views!

Best wishes,
