This page shows my campaigns for the wider Bolsover Constituency. If you would like to know more about any of these campaigns, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me at mark.fletcher.mp@parliament.uk.
Championing Education
Our education services do a phenomenal job with our constituency but with no provision for post-16 and one of the highest computer illiteracy rates in the region more must be done to tackle both of these issues.
Tourism
Endorsing and supporting our burgeoning tourism industry! The tourism sector within Bolsover is growing more and more, with over a quarter of a million people visiting Hardwick Hall alone in 2019. I aim to support and promote the growth of this industry and the benefits it will provide our community.
Levelling Up Infrastructure
Ensuring Bolsover has access to the best transport networks, local services, and best utilities available and establish Bolsover as one of the leading regions in the Green Industrial Revolution.
Bringing Better Jobs to the Constituency
The average weekly wage for someone in full-time employment in Bolsover is £460, compared to £530 in the East Midlands and £570 in the UK. We need to focus on attracting more, higher paid jobs to our constituency.
Our constituency is well located, with brilliant transport links. We need to make the most of these advantages to bring better jobs to Bolsover.
Getting More People onto the Housing Ladder
For too many people throughout Bolsover, home ownership has been a pipe dream. I'm working hard to make sure that more and more people throughout the constituency are able to own their own home.
The median salary in Bolsover is £23,500, while the median house price is £134,000. That means that, on average, houses cost 5.7 times what someone earns in a year.
From the help to buy scheme to the Government's First Home Scheme that was launched in Shirebrook, I'm proud to be part of a Government that is playing it's part in getting people onto the housing ladder.
HS2 Safeguarding
Following the announcement that HS2 Phase 2b (Eastern Leg) will no longer go as far north as the Bolsover constituency and will instead terminate at East Midlands Parkway, I have been working hard to remove the safeguarding zones along the route which are currently causing anguish for many residents and preventing certain projects from progressing.
