Around Shirebrook and Pleasley

This page shows the campaigns I am engaged in around Shirebrook, Pleasley, and Glapwell. If you would like to know more details about any of these campaigns please do not hesitate to email me on mark.fletcher.mp@parliament.uk

Robin Hood Line Extension

I am working with local MPs Ben Bradley (Mansfield) and Mark Spencer (Sherwood) to create a new rail route from Shirebrook to Ollerton via Warsop and Edwinstowe. This will dramatically improve regional connectivity in Shirebrook and help us make the most of being part of the East Midlands’ growing economy offering greater accessibility for tourists. Shirebrook Town Centre Regeneration

Shirebrook Market Square is one of the largest in the UK and has so much potential. I would like to secure funding for the regeneration of the town centre including public realm improvements and greater accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists to support our wonderful local businesses.

Shirebrook Link Road

Shirebrook suffers due to poor East-West infrastructure. The creation of a purpose-built link road from J29 of the M1 to Shirebrook would improve regional connectivity, encourage business, and relieve pressure on the A617 through Glapwell, Doe Lea, and Bramley Vale.

Pleasley Vale Mills

I support Bolsover District Council’s exciting project to regenerate the mills into a mix of housing, a community hub, and leisure facilities. This is a brilliant ambitious project which can serve as a model for future growth in the area.

Youth Centre for Shirebrook

I often hear from young residents about the lack of activities or things to do in Shirebrook and recent incidents of anti-social behaviour have shown that we need to provide opportunities for young people to channel their energy into something productive. This is why I am working with residents and local groups to provide a purpose-built youth centre for the young people of Shirebrook.

Shirebrook Cricket Club

I have been working with the Chairman of Shirebrook Cricket Club to support their bid for funding from Sports England and the National Lottery to re-vamp the pavilion and changing rooms.

A617

I have been contacted by local residents regarding road safety on the A617 between Doe Lea and Glapwell. Poor driving and bad road safety are unacceptable and it’s important that we all play our part in keeping our roads safe for everyone to use. That’s why I want to make sure that we have more traffic calming measures on the road. I recently presented my road safety petition to Derbyshire County Council and I am now working with officers to discuss which measures will be best to implement and where they will be the most effective.

News

Mark welcomes Pleasley Pit funding

Fantastic news that the Land Trust, who manage the Pleasley Pit site, have been successful in their application for funding from Biffa. The company gives grants to projects that benefit communities living near landfill sites.

Remembrance Sunday

It was an honour to take part in the Remembrance Day parade in Bolsover this morning to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in remembrance of all those who gave so much. Thank you to everyone for attending, it was lovely to see so many from our community come to pay their respects.

Constituency Garden of Remembrance in Parliament

Ahead of this year’s Remembrance Sunday, we mark 100 years of the Royal British Legion. The RBL is a fantastic organisation that does an incredible amount of work to support our veterans across the country and honour the fallen.
